Preparation List Before Surgery

November 4, 2016

The thought of surgery can be daunting. Now you want to make sure that you are in your best condition for it. Although the preparation depends on the type of surgery, these are some basic advice you can prepare yourself for. If you are not sure, always consult your doctor or surgeon.

1) Eating & Drinking

Normally a day before the surgery, your doctor would advice to not eat or drink after a specific time. But it is recommended to eat the right nutrients to boost your immune system and help you heal faster.

2) Medicines

Before surgery, you will be advised to stop taking medicines that might result in blood clot which could prolong bleeding during your surgery. Some of the medicines include Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Naxproxen and many more. Ask from your doctor what medicines is required and avoid taking any supplements, herbs, vitamins or minerals unless you are advised to.

3) Washing of your skin

It is ideal to have yourself in a proper hygiene. That means, you should take a shower the night before and the morning of surgery and don't forget to clean your fingernails. You may use medicated soap provided by your doctor or antibacterial soap.

4) Check for symptoms
